One of the most exciting projects we have had the great opportunity to work on in 2013 was assisting JHL Construction with building the new education facility that the Eagle County Charter Academy calls home.  While we have worked on educational buildings in the past, ECCA is a charter school, which means that parents, students, and people from outside the Eagle County offices offered input on how and why the building would be constructed.

New Electric installed energy saving lighting at the Eagle County Charter Academy.

When JHL’s leadership took an entire day to create the wish list for the new 43,000 square foot building with students and parents, the priorities included 20 classrooms, an outdoor gathering area, a state-of-the-art gymnasium, theater, and ensuring it was LEED Gold Certified.

One of the most exciting pieces of the electrical puzzle for ECCA’s new home included installing hallway lighting, throughout the building, that has motion and heat sensors.  This energy-saving method of lighting the school allows the lights to turn themselves off when needed.  “While this technology is not new to residential projects, it was a great challenge to implement in a huge facility such as this,” said New Electric President Jay Van Voorst.  “It’s exciting to see our educational institutions take to heart not only how we’re educating the next generation, but setting the example for how we live on a day to day basis.”

We were proud to offer professional, quality solutions on this construction project, which will have a positive impact on the community, ECCA students, and the future of education.
